Time for a change (Judd) [1:08, 1342 kB]

You act as though
You are the blind man who's crying
Crying 'bout all the virgins that are dying
In your habitual dreams
You know, it seems you need more sleep
But like a parrot in a flaming tree
I know it's pretty hard to see
And I'm beginning to wonder if it's time for a change
But still you try like the fat boy
Dancing Gershwin's blues
But you'd rather sit at home and watch the news
And I'm beginning to wonder if it's time for a change
I'm beginning to wonder if it's time for a change

Split Enz is my favourite band. They're not from Australia (although both Tim Finn and Neil Finn now operate with and in Australian bands like Crowded House). They come from New Zealand, a country I visited extensively twice and think of as the most beautiful place on earth. My respects and deep gratitude to Aotearoa and its people for their continued presence in and contribution to my life.

This song, 'Time for a change', wasn't written by the Finn brothers but by Philip Judd, who fronted Split Enz in the beginning. The song is on an album that was recorded twice. First as 'Mental Notes', in Australia, then again, produced by Roxy Music's guitarist Phil Manzanera, in London, as 'Mental Notes'. Because of the confusion that understandably arose, the latter was renamed to 'Second Thoughts' at a later stage.
