What are we doing?

January 20th, 1999
Calling and mailing Diamond Multimedia's Techsupport, because my Monster Fusion 3DFX arrived yesterday, but as yet doesn't work (as opposed to my brand new Ilyama 21" monitor, haha). Problem definition below. If anybody knows the solution, that somebody will make me a very happy man.

Sitrep: Diamond tells me the IRQ must not be 9, but 10, 11 or 12, Hastec, importers for Diamond in the Netherlands, inform me that the Monster Fusion will not work with the Cyrix processor - but might, using the newest Voodoo Banshee drivers from http://www.3dfx.com/. Meanwhile, the vendor suggests changing the enabled/disabled setting for the VGA IRQ in the BIOS. All of this I will try tonight...

And the winner is...
Hastec, because the reference drivers worked where all other counsel failed. Honours go to the vendor, whose suggestion was dubbed 'nicest idea' by my good neighbour Bert.

Product: Monster Fusion 16 MB
Bus: PCI
IRQ: 09
BIOS version: 120b4002
Driver version: fsn9x211
Computer: clone
Motherboard type: ?
Processor: Cyrix 166
Chipset: ?
Memory size: 64 MB
Monitor type: Ilyama VM 501 21"
OS: Windows 95 4.00.950a
Problem: Card and software (incl. DirectX 6) installed succesfully. Keep getting 'Windows Protection Fault' and message to reboot, after loading of the CD-Rom drivers. Am able to run system with standard VGA driver though.

Already installed new drivers and BIOS upgrade from Diamond-site. Also checked Online FAQs. No programs left in startmenu or autoexec, but for CD-Rom drivers. Mojo (diagnostic util for the Monster series) makes the machine crash into a black screen.
