What are we doing?
December 10th, 2002 Learning even more. The irritating thing about it is that in this case, I already knew it. That firewall may be easy to install and configure, after that the misery begins. Windows 98 namely wouldn't shutdown anymore, at least not without a hard reset or killing-Explorer-as-a-process prior to that shutdown (appears not to happen to all versions of Windows, but is a known 'feature' of this beautiful software suite), resource-hogging made system jams abound, both things led to data-loss, and when I de-installed the thing again, it turned out to have taken some vital dlls with it, so I had to reinstall Windows. And when, thanks to my eternal saving and creating of backups, I was able to do this within four hours, I did not think: "my own fault, should be using a newer OS by now" but I thought: "if stupid assholes fail to be able to write proper programs they should fucking fuck off with their moronic fucking shit" and "I should have kept on listening to myself". For the only other time that I didn't, I thought "well hey, let's go and forgive someone something" and decided to buy someone a gin and have a bit of a talk with him. This ended in an attempted manslaughter on my part (despite my hope for the opposite), of a former alderman, who, thank God, did not file charges on the matter. I should, then too, have kept on listening to myself. Forgiveness does not exist and is an objectionable principle. And the best defense against irritating morons is not a good firewall, but not being an irritating moron yourself. Being liked is not the same thing as BEING likable. |
