What are we doing?

October 8th, 2004

Watching the Dead Kennedys, in the Patronaat. Without Jello Biafra, because they've been fighting amongst themselves for years now. So with a substitute singer (Jeff Penalty). But with the old repertoire. And one can say all kinds of things about that, but I for one was overjoyed to finally be able to hear and experience those songs, that since the Eighties have been what I play when I really lose my cool for anger.

That Jello wasn't there was a shame, and the new singer logically was less good - but there were East Bay Ray and Klaus Flouride, and D.H. Peligro, and they played like I'd heard it on the records, but hadn't expected it: with devilish fire and great speed.

In short, I had a fine night. Coverband? Bullshit. As if those men, barring Jeff, haven't written along, at that repertoire. Again, shame that Jello wasn't there, but he hasn't offered me the chance to hear this repertoire for years now; these gentlemen do. One could, at the most, blame them for not writing any new material since Biafra - but that is bullshit too, since it is untrue, since they do do so, albeit in other bands, like Jumbo Shrimp.
