MICHIEL ADRIAENSZ. DE RUYTER (1607-1676) ADMIRAL
| De Ruyter was born march 27th, 1607 in Flushings as the son of a beerbearer's assistant. In 1622 he enlisted in the army, some years later with the navy. After the battle of Lowestoft in 1667 De Ruyter was promoted lieutenant-admiral. In 1676 the famous seafaring icon was killed in a clash with the French navy. |
