What are we doing?
June 30th, 2004 And now I still feel that way (although he'll probably resign). I think Dick did a fine job. Reaching the semi-finals with a team as arrogant as this one, is no mean feat. The achievements of certain individual players aside, it seems to me that, following performance that disappointed the people of Holland, by four subsequent coaches with a largely homogenous group of players, those coaches are unjustly blamed for that disappointment. Myself, I mostly think that it is not our attack that's the problem (although it often isn't as sharp as it should be), but the lack of defensive hindrance, early in the opponent's attack, that's plagued us since the seventies. And about those coaches: Adriaanse will now probably become it, rightly so, because he's had an immeasurably loud mouth about it, but actually those assholes in Zeist should now do what is necessary and make sure that the man from Barcelona gives it a try. Meanwhile I've enjoyed a splendid tournament, that went ever so well for us, over the past weeks. Dick, thank you. |
